A quick update

So our first week back at school was pretty smooth, with only a few rough spots early on in the week.  Its always hard to get back into the swing of things after a long break...and the first few days I was pretty tired.  But I think we're back on track.  The first week of rehearsals for the revue went relatively smoothly as well, and I think the show will be ready to go by Thursday's opening night.  I don't know if it will be as good as last year's show, but it will still be a good night of entertainment.  It's hard to believe that next week ends the semester, and the following week we will have exams...the year has passed so quickly thus far.  I can only hope that the second half passes just as quickly.  I mean, I enjoy my work...but I enjoy summer too.  I have a great many plans for the coming summer, and I intend to enjoy it to the fullest.  I won't need to take classes, so the time is completely my own this year.  I will have more time to spend with friends, and I may have a special person in my life as well.  No, there's no one in particular yet...but I am hopeful that there will be someone.  I think I'm due for a bit of personal happiness.

This coming week I will be even more busy, what with the final rehearsals and dress rehearsal and then the show.  Friday will seem a blessing, since I will not have rehearsal or a show to worry about.  Also, my friend Patrick will be coming down to visit on Sunday since I have a long weekend.  I'm gonna cook for him and we're gonna probably watch some movies.  Its gonna go fast (which is good).  I can't wait to get started on the senior class play, I think it's gonna be a fun time for all involved...and maybe we'll get a bigger audience since its a comedy.  Who knows?

Waters Watch - Day 3: The Only Cereal I Know About is Rice Krispies

I remember the first John Waters movie I saw, which based on its rating and violent content I should never have been allowed to see at my the age of 10.  However, my mother was always more concerned with what she thought I could handle rather than ratings.  For example, my sister and I were allowed to see Pretty Woman very young in our lives...which a lot of parents would have objected to due to the sexual content...but Miss J and I had no idea what the sexual innuendo meant at the time so it was ok.  We never repeated it, that's for sure.  Anyway, mom thought this movie looked funny and she also liked Kathleen Turner...so she figured what the hell.  Of course, it turned out to be something we all enjoyed as a family despite the fact that it was a horror comedy with bad language and gore.  But like I said, Mom knew we could handle it.  That movie was Serial Mom and to date it remains one of my all time favorites from John Waters.  I often wonder...

Nice Doing Business With You

There are some movies, as I said back when I first started this blog, that we aren't supposed to like because of several factors.  Perhaps it is because the star is someone that is generally known to have little to no talent, or maybe it is the fact that the film is a remake or a sequel to something much more well liked, or maybe the story is just too strange or odd to really connect with mass amounts of people.  Either way, general consensus dictates that the film is of poor quality and so it gets shuffled off to the side to rot.  It might surprise you to know that many of my favorite films fall into that outcast group of films we're supposed to not enjoy.  I think this is the case for two reasons...one, I've always been a little left-of-center regarding my taste, but also when I see these films my expectations remain low and allow the films a much better chance of impressing me.  We come, then, to the film of the day that I have enjoyed since I was in college ...
